What is the Standard 11 Course

Standard 11 (S11 or Mine Induction) is the mandatory induction course you must complete in order to set foot and work on surface coal and metaliferous mine sites in Queensland.

The Standard 11 course covers 6 nationally recognised units of competency and prepares you for work in potentially dangerous surface mining environments.

The course combines the latest theoretical knowledge and safety practices with hands-on practical training – ensuring you graduate ready for work with the skills required for safe operations on mine sites.

As a student, you’ll learn from experienced trainers – providing you with valuable insights.

Who is Standard 11 designed for?

Standard 11 should be completed by anybody looking to pursue a career in Queensland’s mining industry, such as:

  • Students looking to enter the mining industry when they leave school.
  • Experienced miners looking to make the move to Queensland from other states.
  • Qualified tradespeople looking to use their highly sought-after skills for mining.
  • Machinery operators currently working in civil or construction roles and looking to switch to mining.
  • Career changers and people who are seeking something a bit different.
  • Overseas skilled migrants, looking for work in Queensland mines.

Regardless of your background or experience, choosing to do the Standard 11 course could be one of the most rewarding decisions you ever make.
Our experienced trainers will share everything they know with you about what it’s like to work in the mining industry – ensuring you graduate with the right skills, attitude and a realistic outlook on how you can further pursue a career in mining.
